In the governments work programme for cooperation with the EU in 2021, Foreign Minister Ine Eriksen Søreide underlines the importance of the predictability, common rules and equal rights for the Norwegian industry the EEA agreement gives us, and emphasizes the need for more international cooperation, not less.

While the government’s strategy for cooperation with the EU 2018-2021, defines the guidelines and goals for the cooperation with the EU, the yearly work programmes describes how Norway will follow up the most relevant issues in the year to come.

For Energy Valley members, the focus on the European Green Deal will be of importance. The work programme points out that it is Norways best interest for the EU to succeed in their endevours both economically and politically. With early adaptations, the European Green Deal can help Norwegian businesses gain a competitive advantage in Europes green transition.

Another important point for Energy Valley from the work programme is the approach to the classification system for sustainable economic activity – the EU taxonomy, which will be further developed in 2021. Especially the hydropower criterias have been a priority for Norway, and will continue to be so in the year to come.

The work programme consists of four main headlines:

  • secure Europe
  • A free Europe
  • An economically strong Europe
  • responsible Europe
