– Digital platforms such as Google, Amazon, and Facebook, which are amongst the most valuable companies today, have already disrupted traditional sectors, and will continue to challenge traditional organisations.

The global trends of digitisation, connectivity and big data have created new technology-driven business opportunities which digital platform firms have taken advantage of to create and capture value in new ways, and disrupt a number of sectors.

If you are not a digital native firm, how can you respond? Can old dogs learn new tricks? How will you know whether and how you can build a platform business ? Will you need to join an existing platform ecosystem? Or will you try to build one on your own — or together with a coalition of partners? Or will you acquire one platform ?

Participants will learn to decrypt what makes digital platform firm successful: their business models, their technologies, how they govern their ecosystems. Participants will learn to identify whether they could adopt platform business models, says Prof. Gawer.

Professor Gawer will be joined by Bjørn Tore Markussen, CEO of C4IR, Ocean Data Platform, in a discussion moderated by Luis Morencos, Industry Director Energy & Utilities, Microsoft.
