H2Carrier and Larsen & Toubro, an Indian multi-national conglomerate, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Together they will work to develop floating green ammonia projects for industrial-scale applications.

The goal is to decarbonize the global economy.

“To fast-track, the progress towards the decarbonization goals, out-of-the-box thinking, and innovative solutions are the need of the hour. In this regard, our partnership with H2Carrier is very timely and is expected to unleash synergies as we enjoy strong complementarities.” Says Mr. Subramanian Sarma, Whole-Time Director & Sr. Executive Vice President (Energy) at Larsen & Toubro, in H2Carrier’s press release.

P2XFloater to be built in Asia

The company has expertice in developing and integrating PtX projects based on affordable, often stranded, non-commercial renewable power. Larsen & Toubro will become a partner for EPCIC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation & Commissioning) of the topsides process plant.

H2C plans to build the P2XFloaterTM hull at yards in Asia.

Larsen & Toubro will design & fabricate the topside process & utility modules for the production of Green Hydrogen & Green Ammonia, including the Electrolysers, the nitrogen generation plant, and ammonia synthesis.

Installation and integration of the topsides modules into the hull can be customized as per location preferences. This can then be carried out in India or in other geographies.

Creating the optimal supply chain

“Our P2XFloater design represents a solution that addresses a number of concerns for renewable energy projects: costs, time, use of land and environmental footprint, lengthy planning and regulation processes. By teaming up with Larsen & Toubro, we have taken a significant step towards creating an optimal supply chain for delivering P2XFloaters on a large scale to projects anywhere in the world.” Says the CEO of H2Carrier Mårten Lunde.

Lunde is excited by the markets’ response to their P2XFloater. Through the collaboration with Larsen & Toubro, H2Carrier is confident in being able to establish a high and reliable production capacity to serve their global customer, he says.

Design awarded Approval in Principle by DNV

H2Carrier has developed the P2XFloater concept in close cooperation with leading maritime and process engineering companies in Norway. In August 2022 the P2XFloater was awarded Approval in Principle by DNV.

H2Carrier will build, own and lease, and operate a fleet of P2XFloaters.

“We are delighted to collaborate with H2Carrier on their unique and novel P2XFloater design and we strongly believe that Larsen & Toubro, with its globally recognized expertise in Ammonia and Hydrogen production as well as vast experience in design and fabrication of complex process modules, is poised to be the ideal partner for H2Carrier in this venture.” Says Mr. Subramanian Sarma, Whole-Time Director and Sr.Executive VP (Energy) at Larsen & Toubro.
