At present, the broad consensus vocalizes the need to accelerate the green shift. As a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the EU wants to become independent of Russian fossil fuels. REPowerEU is a plan to reduce Europe’s dependence of Russian energy and emphasizes the importance of accelerating the clean energy transition.

Massive investments in renewable energy is a top priority for the EU. Despite this, there are several short-term barriers that seem to counteract climate action as the demand for oil and gas has skyrocketed.
